Building a new brand for the luxury bathtub market

In a $10B+ market crowded with bespoke bathtubs and concrete sinks, Vast Studio introduced itself with a product line made using the same materials and techniques employed by the craftsmen of old Morocco who once sculpted the walls of hammam bathhouses and royal palaces.

The brand needed to address not just the usual tropes of luxury — indulgence, exclusivity, the value of thoughtful design — but also the ideals of a new era embodied by sustainable production methods, lighter-weight materials and transparent supply chains. The founders wanted to extend the sensation of the ancient luxury of bathing, the original immersive experience, throughout their brand.

So I built their brand presence and voice with a tactile sensibility. Using language that envelopes the viewer in the feel of surfaces and textures, in sumptuous descriptions of premium materials, Vast Studio takes consumers deep into the emotional essence behind the design and function of each product. Indulgent photography and videos amplify the effect, creating a wellspring of elevated ambiance.

Bathing — the ultimate immersive experience.
Vast Studio’s brand was shaped with a tactile sensibility and long form writing.

From the Vast Studio Site: The Process

In old Morocco, builders used a unique process to combine Marrakech lime with pigment and black soap to create what was called ‘tadelakt,’ a beautiful waterproof plaster that was pliable yet seamless and strong. Shaped into curves and beautiful forms or simply used as a protective surface, it became synonymous with luxury and is still used as the traditional coating of palaces, hammam bathhouses and Morocco’s open-courtyard riads. It could be made in virtually any color, finished textured or smooth, with a look both ancient and timeless.

In Mesopotamia and Sumeria, the first metal forgers learned to create castings, sculpting beautiful pieces that they immortalized in the precious metals of their day.

These age-old techniques and materials — modernized with engineering, fortified with advanced super-strong additives and using newly patented procedures — form the basis of Vast Studio’s fabrication process. It makes our creations both sturdy and nimble, with tubs and sink that are often less than half the weight of comparable bathroom products.

Starting with handcrafted designs, we create precision-engineered casting molds, layering proprietary micro-cement with latex polymers, natural Spanish quartz and English pigment to achieve stunning cementitious products with unique finishes. Luxurious metals and textures can also be added before casting, creating a hybrid solid-surface material that is incredibly durable yet smooth and pleasing to the touch.

Using language that envelopes the viewer in the feel of surfaces, textures, and sumptuous descriptions of premium materials,
Vast Studio takes consumers deep into the emotional essence behind the design of each product.

Bathtub II

Rising majestically into a surround encompassing a stunning 1.58 cubic meters, this tub reaches its crescendo in a smooth, asymmetric lip that hints at overflowing bounty. Inspired by naturally occurring ovoid forms of the plant and animal kingdoms, its expansive roundness speaks to rebirth and rejuvenation, a reawakening of the primal soul through the ritual of bathing. Submerge your stresses. Emerge whole, pure and new.

Almost like a bath itself, copy creates a relaxing, nourishing experience for the reader.
Indulgent photography and videos amplify the effect, creating a wellspring of elevated ambiance.

Bathtub IV

A gentle swell builds to a wave. An organic curve reaches upward, cresting over an unseen shore. Emulating the slow power and tidal movement of the sea itself, this tub starts at 755mm wide and reaches its apex at a full 890mm in height, a flow that gently captures the eye and captivates the spirit. Cradled in the deep, you’re the master of a realm where you float in tranquility and strength.

Bathtub V

In the mountains of Japan, steaming onsen bathhouses are natural respites where water represents not just cleanliness but pleasure, and its surrounding presence lulls the body and mind into a state of ease and contemplation. So we followed the contours of round Hinoki cypress-staved ofuro soaking tubs as the inspiration for our deepest bathing experience. Our iteration flares slightly as it ascends, expanding its diameter to almost 1.5 meters to accommodate 613 liters of capacity, offering just enough space in which to lose yourself.

Bathtub VI

Simple. Smooth. Precise. If a vessel is valued not for itself but for the space that it creates within, then this tub’s elegant ovoid form is a precious gift that honors its owner above all. Bestowing a sanctum whose contours create balance and harmony, this is serenity defined by shape. A timeless form renewed by modern materials, its gentle curves and sliced-level edge invite you into a bathing experience of pure lucidity.
